Stan Smith Design was founded in 1986 and was acquired by L.R. Kimball & Associates in 1998. SSD is based on Hilton Head Island, SC, and the legendary Stan Smith maintains the role of Chairman for the company. SSD offers clients planning/design, marketing, promotion and club development services. SSD has over 20 years of experience in the marketing and management of some of the world’s finest tennis facilities. This expertise is utilized to help each client reach their critical business objectives, from world-class resorts such as the Ritz Carlton, Kapalua, to award-winning residential communities like the Sherwood Club. The firm has designed several projects that have won the Tennis Court of the Year Award.

Stan Smith is a legend in his sport, not only for the numerous tennis titles he has won, but also for the legacy of good sportsmanship he brought to his profession. One of the great Davis Cup competitors of all time, Stan was the world’s number one ranked tennis player in 1971 and 1972 when he added the US Open (1971) and the Wimbledon (1972) crowns to his list of more than 40 career singles titles. He was named coach of the 2000 US Tennis Team.
